Can't print to HP Color LaserJet CP3505 Printers

Hi everyone,

First of all I want to say thanks to this forum, this is my first time posting in it but it has been IMMENSELY useful for me. I have a Toshiba Satellite P500-MP notebook running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, purchased in January of this year. On the advice of some threads on these forums I recently did a system restore because I was getting the blue screen of death regularly. I used the Toshiba Recovery Media discs I created, and the Toshiba system restore wizard to go back to out-of-box settings. The restore seems to have fixed the blue screen problems, and my system is faster and as far as I know more stable.

However, I can no longer print to my network HP Color LaserJet CP3505 Printer. When I installed this printer pre-restore, it worked with no difficulties in installation. I can ping the IP address of the printer, and other people can print to it just fine, so I know its not the printer. I've installed all the Windows Updates after the system restore, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for the printer multiple times, and even downloading them from the HP website, and nothing works. I have read people posting about not being able to print from Adobe or from Office programs, but I can't print anything, not even the test page - the status of anything I try to print is always Error - Printing.

I've tried using the Microsoft troubleshooting apps to no avail.

I am really hoping someone has some insight here - I guess I could just never print anything again and save some trees, but sometimes it is nice to have hard copies...

Thanks in advance!

Cara

Welcome Cara.

Have you taken a look at the printer properties and which port is is using?
Otherwise, you might want to remove the printer by uninstalling it.

Then download and install the latest drivers from hp and then select network as the method
to connect.

Most times windows 7 will search out and install network printers if you select the network as the location.

Rich

PS: do you know the IP for the printer, you might want to try adding a tcp/ip port to the location for the printer and then see what happens.

Hi richnrockville,

Thanks for the reply!

I am using a standard TCP/IP port, 9100, for the network printer. I do know the IP address for the printer. I have tried removing the printer and installing it using the HP drivers, and the printer is always recognized but I can't print to it.

Before my system recovery, Windows 7 did successfully install the network printer without a hitch - I was so pleasantly surprised at how easy it was!

Update - I think that for whatever reason when I removed the printer it wasn't being properly uninstalled. When I examined the port to double check the IP address, I saw that there were multiple ports with the same IP address followed by _1, _2 etc. corresponding with the number of times I'd "uninstalled" and reinstalled the drivers. However, when I removed the printer ONE LAST TIME these ports disappeared - weird. I reinstalled the printer again and it works now. I still wonder why it didn't remove the printer properly the other times, but regardless its fixed now so I'm happy!

Thanks!
