Some Experts needed.. 'Rate My/This Computer'

    Hello-,

First post just bought a HP p6720f - here's some specs.

    OS Home 64 Bit

    CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 840T 2.9Ghz

    Motherboard - N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix)

    Memory - Samsung DDR3 6 GIG

    Graphics Card(s) - MSI N560GTX-Ti

Sound Card - on-board (for now)

    Monitor(s) Displays LG- 42' LCD

PSU - PC Power &Cooling 425 Turbo Cool ATX

** I added the video card and the PSU. It was cheaper to buy one then build one. Question is when I try and run Rate This Computer it crashes within 5 secconds - machine shuts off. I have to pwr back on.

Granted i'm not that concerned about this rating. Its probably bogus anyway but I was curious to why you think it simply powers off my machine. I was thinking my add-in video or PSW... My drivers are all updated.

    Thoughts?

    TIA

Double check that you have built it together properly a user manual for the MB would be a big help
Check that you have not dislodged other components whilst building the new bits in
I find it is sometimes easier to find the problems if you start again from scratch

Its store bought. I didn't build it I just added the video and PSU and didn't disturb anything inside. I've built many but they are so chaep now I just said i'll buy one complete. No user manual with the rig. its HP. I have the MB layout here

Motherboard Specifications, N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix) HP Pavilion p6720f Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Then I would suggest trying it with the original bits and see if the problem still exists

There is a good reason some computer sell for a low/cheap price.

That is because they are of a lower/cheaper quality.

Did you check the original PSU to make sure it was not wired in some proprietary manor?

You probably are not supplying enough power to the graphics card - your power supply is probably not adequate. Nvidia lists the recommended minimum power supply for a GTX 560 to be 500W. In addition, you have to balance the power across the power supply rails properly as that video card is power hungry. For instance, you would want your CPU and your video card on different rails, including the auxiliary PCI-e power connector for the video card (you do have that plugged in right?)

Didn't try the original PSU and yes I have it plugged in right :)

I'm going to buy a 600 watt or better. They are not much $ these days. My PC Power & Cooling even though a 425 its still rated higer than most 500 but its 12 years old so maybe time for a new one.

If you can't fix it take it back... And build your own desktop proper. HP have quite a high rank for products failing among the other big manufacturers. Asus has the least amount of percentage of products failing. More detailed info is on google.

It will have lost power capacity in that period due to capacitor aging.

Just an update. New psw seemed to be the fix. Ran the test again and it ran fine - didn't power of.
