Have I got a Duff CPU Fan
Hi all.
Another question if I may.
I have just built a HTPC out of old components I had, so its not the one in my specs (sorry).
Its an old socket 478 board, which is a P4SD-LA.
Now, being in a HTPC case, I have had some cooling issues with the stock CPU coolers, so I have just bought a new cooler, listed below.

Now, the fan on this unit is a four wire type, but the mobo only has a three pin header.
It has an off set on the plug, so it looks like it should connect to a three pin socket also, but the fan just makes a couple of revolutions and stops again.
I have then connected the fan to the case fan 3 pin socket, and it still fails to turn !
I feel that the fan is faulty, but can anybody offer any assistance on whether it should work from a 3 pin socket, or have I just bought the wrong thing ?
Thanks

I believe it should work, but could be wrong
As for the connection The black wire should go to the ground pin (It should also only fit one way)

Yes it will be fine on a 3 pin header, that is why it has the ridge between the 3rd and 4th pin. And yes it is possible that it came with a bad fan on it.
One way to quickly test it is if you have an unused fan header on your computer. No need to mount the heatsink, just connect the fan and power up and see if it spins.

Thanks as always.
Spoken to the supplier today, and they are sending a replacement.
