    theog,
Thank you for the reply. I am betting reading the entire thread on this will give you some interesting insights.
Hopefully your new drive will work first time ,follow Doc Browns advice (post #61) and the links theog gave and you should be OK. Once again I do apologise for missing your post Now you know how to take your tower apart have a good look inside if its a bit dusty give it a blow with a can of compressed air around the fans and the cpu and gpu fans ,Try and make a mental note of where cables go and come from where the device cards are etc :)

It was a dvd rw I think. Quite honestly after my husband kept forgetting, putting off etc helping me with getting into the tower I was finally able to get him to help with the ordering the drive. He used to run Windows (now Linux) and still can remember some stuff I guess.

I will most definitely follow up on this info too. I have to say there is no way in God's green earth that I would ever touch his Linux infested machine. It has nothing to do with the Linux aspect of it but more that I would first not even ask to touch it and more if by some weird thing he let me touch it and I would break something on it.......... well howdy I would never ever hear the end of it. Hey I have to live with the man!
