New hard drive issues So I just bought this new hard drive and it was working for about two hours and then got this error from this program that the disk couldn't be written to. I looked in My Computer and the drive had disappeared. I also looked under Disk Management, and it's not there as well. In the BIOS, it was detected, but since the error I can't seem to detect it.
I took all the usual precautions of ESD, and I've install hard drives many times, so I'm not sure what's going on.
Any ideas? | My System Specs |

Maybe it simply failed. That happens now and again. Get it exchanged for a new one.
Before you take it back check all cables and plugs for correct seating. A loose connector can cause problems like that.
Although electrostatic discharge can have serious effects on various components, if it does, it will invariably kill them immediately. Although it is still a problem under some circumstances, it is no longer as common as it once was for components to be damaged by it.

I did try other SATA cables as well as power cables, and they didn't seem to do much. Probably have to RMA it. Thanks though. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium SP1 CPU Intel Core i7 2600K 4.5 GHz w/TurboBoost & HT enabled Motherboard Asus P8P67 Deluxe Rev. Hey I got my new hard drive and something I was going to ask. There is this small silver sticker on the side of the drive. It's about as big as your fingernail (the pink part). I'm not sure if that's some sort of breathing hole for the drive or not. Am I supposed to remove that? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium SP1 CPU Intel Core i7 2600K 4.5 GHz w/TurboBoost & HT enabled Motherboard Asus P8P67 Deluxe Rev. Damn. Will it actually damage the hard drive if I removed it? I thought it was part of the packaging. There was something that said do not cover any holes and that was covering something. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium SP1 CPU Intel Core i7 2600K 4.5 GHz w/TurboBoost & HT enabled Motherboard Asus P8P67 Deluxe Rev.
