spilled liquid on keyboard

Well if all that doesn't work are a few keys your friend should consider themselves lucky. I would just buy a new keyboard and replace the one that is having problems. Next to RAM the keyboard is ~usually~ the easiest thing to replace on a laptop.

Repairing damaged laptop keyboards is not usually within the scope of a non-technical user. If you don't know anything about it, and you try anyway, you are likely to do more damage.It is invariably cheaper to get a new keyboard than to repair one.

There is one trick which may work for you. Get a pint of Isopropyl-alcohol from your drugstore or chemist.

Using a beaker or similar, pour an amount of this into the keyboard and swill it around by gently swishing the laptop back and forth. Avoid getting any on the screen. You can also use a long thin brush, ( Stiffish Artist's paint brush), to brush between the keys. When thoroughly swilled and brushed, tip the laptop so that most of the Isoprop runs out. Leave at least 24 hours for the rest of the isoprop to evaporate, in a warm well ventilated place.

This works in most cases, and will remove lemonade, coca cola, beer, tea, coffee, and other liquid residues. Of course, you do it at your own risk.

Do this in a well ventilated place, and allow to dry in a well ventilated place.
