Windows 7: hp bluray dvd driver help

I have a hp envy 17 which i had to recently format due to problems, and i am having trouble with the dvd drive i believe it is just a issue with the driver but i am having trouble locating one.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have any ideas? this is a buddy of mine and I couldnt find any drivers I was wondering if there was a driver expert that may know?

This is a laptop, right, and it came preloaded with Windows 7?

The proper way to "reformat" it is to use the option to do a factory restore.

Did you do that? If so, it should have restored all the original drivers.

If you just stuck in a Windows 7 DVD and installed from scratch, you're likely to have trouble finding the drivers -- although, Windows Update can often do that for you.

Well im not sure what he did but the HP repair partition became corrupt and would fail on re-imaging. However he used my imaging server to reinstall over lan. The issue we are running into now is (besides not booting from the optical drive) is a disk I know has something on it will register as blank, It did that on a M3 disk I just took out of my test machine.

It boggles me why hp would not have the driver for the dvdwbd (optical drive) on their website.

You got at least a couple of choices ...

One, you could continue to try to find a driver for the blue-ray device. Why Windows Update won't find it, I don't know.

Two, you could contact HP, tell them the drive got corrupted (including the restore partition), and see what they will do about providing you DVD media you can use to restore your working PC.

Personally, I would choose the second, as that will guarantee to provide all the right drivers for your PC.

I am probably going to just cave and have them ship me a recovery disk, thank you for all the help everyone.

Did you try to download the HP Support Assistant?

Maybe installing it will solve your problem.
