CD/DVD drives not showing up

Hi Gang

My original Win 7 dumbed on me and I could not recover it so had to do a complete Win 7RC install. Since then I cannot get my 2 DVD drives to show up. There is power to them but when you click on computer only the HD shows up. This Win 7RC install is on a separate computer. My other computer runs XP SP3. If you want to share printers on both computers should you be in Workgroup or Homegroup.?

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanx........Gunny

hey gunny
Im an oldtimer so im not that fond of homegroup it seems like whenever I have tried to get xp and win 7 to talk it wasn't in homegroup. As far as your missing dvd's are concerned did you enable them in BIOS as bootible devices?

Hope this points you in the right direction

Do you have disks in the DVD drives? There's a setting in the Folder view options that does not show empty drives.

DJG.......I should have mentioned too they don't work either, I can put something in them and they don't work. They are seen under Device Manager also.

Hi Gunny,

Can you tell us about your system?

What make/model PC or motherboard?

Are these SATA or IDE/PATA drives?

Do they show up on the BIOS / are they listed at boot time?

Do they show up on the Control Panel/Device Manager? Are there any unknown devices with a "?"

If you're familiar with the Storage/Disk Management console, do they show up there, with drive letter assigned?

Thanks,

DJ

DJG---- The PC MOBO is a Intel DG965 WH, one drive is a SATA and the other is a IDE, they show up in the BIOS, yes they show up in Device Manager, no ?'s, and they don't show up in Disk Management.

They're in Device Mgr as DVD drives and no problems (in properties it says Device is working properly, driver looks good, have a tab for Region), and do not show up at all in Storage / Disk Management? Not even without a drive letter? You really sure? Sorry, need to double check! That's extremely weird.
