    USB Stick not recognized; Force re-scan? Show drive in WinExp?


    When I plugin an USB Stick (with an additional built-in broadband HSDPA modem) then this drive is sometimes NOT visible in Windows Explorer.

    Why?

    How can I force Win7 to re-scan all USB ports and try to show all USB devices/drive letters?

    To force Windows to re-scan hardware changes, right click My Computer, then click Manage. Click on Device Manager, right click on the root entry and select "Scan for Hardware Changes".

    There is also this utility, which, along with other functions, will allow you to click on the systray icon and rescan, saving several clicks. I haven't used it myself, but was looking into it for esata detection problems (which was solved by replacing the MS standard controller with the motherboard sata controller).

    In process of looking for an answer (which included a rescan 'shortcut'), I came across people endorsing this utility for that very purpose:

I received a malware alert about 2 files from my avast anti-virus, it recommended that I press OK to delete them, I did, and then it said something about a " boot scan " and I pressed OK, my system started to restart ( I realized what a boot scan was, haha :D ) then instead of the usual boot up...
I have a problem with WinExplorer under 64bit Win 7: I inserted a BlueRay or DVD media and want to see the content (approx 12 big zip files) in Windows Explorer. But WinExp does not show them (on the right side in details list). If I click on the drive in WinExplorer nothing happens....

When I plugin an USB stick then a popup appears which asks me if I want to scan and fix the new mounted USB stick. See attached Snapshot. How can I suppress/avoid this warning popup? I always want to "continue without warning". Under WiNXP this was possible. So guess this should be...

This is a 1GB thumb drive and its been working just fine. Put some files on it with this machine with the intent of transferring to another machine (which did not come to pass). Now I get this error; WTF?
