    have you tried to attached it with different USB cable or to other USB port? do you hear a continuous ticking sound from the external harddrive?

    I try using the usb cable on my psp and its working. Yeap, i keep hearing the connecting and disconnecting ticking of sound randomly.

    better plug it in another USB port if the ticking sound doesn't stop, restart your computer let windows redetect the external HD again.

    Whenever I reboot my pc, the first thing i see is the spec of my pc instead of the window 7 loading screen. When they were showing, it will stuck there for sometime showing Auto redetecting USB Mass Storage, Driver 01.

    gangile, here's what you should do:

    shutdown the computer, disconnect the external HD, start the computer, in windows attached now the external HD, if there's no ticking sound coming from the external HD then pls checked now if windows detected it. if not, try the external HD to another computer. if the same problem persist, assume defective external HD.
