    Intalling New Keyboard and Mouse

I just purchased a Microsoft Wireless Media Desktop 1000 keyboard and mouse. The first thing the instructions tell you to do is install the software.
Should I install the software while I have my current USB keyboard and mouse plugged in?

    Any help will be appreciated,
    James

Usually Windows 7 will load the drivers once it detects the hardware. Just plug it in. You can adjust the settings within Windows 7 from "Hardware and Sound".

If you prefer to adjust the setting with the Microsoft software, then follow the setup instructions that were included with your hardware.

This is what I was affraid of. I can't get the volume or mute keys to work. Everything else seems fine. When I press them nothing happens... no volume status indicator and the volume doesn't change. The speakers are in my HP 2010 series wide LCD monitor.

    Any ideas?

Actually you do need to install the drivers. You need to install two packages - one for the keyboard, one for the mouse.

Use these - Wireless Media Desktop 1000 Keyboard & Mouse | Microsoft Hardware. Click the support tab and choose your OS - Windows 7 x64.

    Good luck.

I finally did that but they still don't work. I had to uninstall the old ones and I inserted the cd and it installed the IntelliType and IntliPoint drivers. Even asked me for the keyboard and mouse type. Seems when I press Caps Lock and other toggle buttons a graphic does come up indicating the status. But, nothing for the the Volume Up, Volume Down or the Mute. The volume doesn't alter either when pressing these keys. The 2 files are loading at start up.

I don't know what's going on but if you installed both drivers as stated above - one for the mouse, the other for the keyboard, the keybpard should be fully functional.

If you've done this, and the keys still don't work, then the keyboard may be defective.

First, try a different USB port.
If different ports do not work......

MS Support found it. I had the 'Human Interface Device Access' service disabled. MS Tech Support straitened me out.

Hope this helps someone else who might have this problem.

    Thanks much,

Hmmmm..... have you done any tweaks to Windows? Strange that HID would be disabled.

Anyways glad to hear it's sorted.

    Peace
