HDD is better than David Copperfield.
A month ago I installed a new HDD with a new copy of Windows 7. Last Wednesday the new HDD got corrupt registry somehow. After 2 days trying to fix it I bought a new WD Raptor and installed Windows 7 again. The first HDD I move to D:\ and so on and so on. All good, back up and working with a few minor install hiccups.
Problem is now that the D:\ drive keep disappearing and reappearing. The HDD won’t start up with the system. I have to get into Device Manager and Scan for hardware changes to find the HDD. It picked it up ok. Tried moving file off it and it’s SO slow. Taken 7 hours to move 20GB. It’s a 7200rpm HDD and its only month old. It’s the first time I’ve come over this sort of problem. Running like an old dog?? Unusual for me. If I lose a drive that’s usually it.
So my question is, can I run anything in system tools to check, diagnose or fix a hard drive. I can really work out what wrong with it. Works fine just doesn’t get recognised on start up and is super slow. Any suggestions. I’m new to Windows 7 but have a fair grasp on things. Thanks for any suggestions.
Now I’ve lost the drive again after rebooting and Scan for hardware changes are not picking it up.
Listy.
