Windows 7: installing 2nd monitor

installing 2nd monitor

I bought this to add a second monitor to my computer.......

Tritton TRI-UV100 SEE2 USB 2.0 SVGA Adapter

(see usb to vga adapter jpg below)

I installed the program including drivers, then restarted the computer & plugged in this device connected to the second monitor. The problem is, I see the same image on both monitors.

I use my computer for many things and I frequently use it for watching videos. My idea for purchasing this, I had hopefully intended to use one monitor just for watching videos & use the other monitor for browsing, email & the usual computer-type stuff.

If I use it on the mirror setting, it shows the same thing on both monitors. If I use it on the extended setting, the second monitor shows my desktop picture but no icons or any other computer functions.

I even went to Tritton's website & installed drivers just for windows 7! If I go to control panel > display & detect external display, it does see the 2nd display but if I try to save any settings it says 'unable to save display settings'.

Also if I click on the Tritton icon on my desktop, I see this:

It's supposed to show you 1 square for each monitor.

Is there any way to do what I want to do? I also have another computer just like this one but it has a crack in the monitor that is built into that one. I could use the usb to vga on that one but since all I see are scrambled images on that monitor, it might be very difficult trying to guess which setting to choose.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
