    CD/DVD drive/writer problem.

Unfortunately I have encountered another problem which you guys might be able to help with.

For no apparent reason my CD/DVD drive cannot read anything anymore. When I put a disc in the green light goes on for a few seconds, the drive makes noise and the disc starts to spin but after a second it just dies. It also makes a very weird noise for like 5 seconds after it has done all that.

It doesn't appear on my computer. I get no errors and I checked on my device manager and again no errors there.

I deleted the filters but that didn't solve the problem. I ran the Microsoft ATS Setup and it tells me my CD/DVD drive was not detected but I opened my computer and the drive is connected.

I don't know when it stopped working because I hardly ever use my drive. The drive is rather old I think, is it possible it just died? But the same goes for my writer and that one isn't as old.

    Edit:

Going into my Disk Management screen it shows both my drives aren't initialized. Upon trying to do so it gives me an I/O device error.

Thx for the help in advance.

As I've stated I did check if it was plugged in and it was. It'd be pretty coincidental for the laser to be dirty on both my drives at the same time all of a sudden.
