lost half my HD!

    lost half my HD!


    ok I installed an SSD drive on my new gateway DX computer and it comes with a 1TB HD so I unplugged it and installed my SSD drive and installed win7 then after installation completed and all was ok I connected my reg HD and win7 found it but im missing HALF! so what happened? BUT intel rapid storage app see's all the 944GB...just not windows in the "computer" folder or section here is a picture of it

    It would help if you posted a screenshot of disk management window.

    Type diskmgmt.msc in start search box to find it.

    ah ok here is the problem seems 400gb is unallocated how do I get that back or merge it with my E drive? thx

    If that was a active partition before you could boot with your repair disk and run a chkdsk /p "/p is only available in the Recovery Console"
    or
    If you just want to merge it with you e: partition you can use this tut. Partition or Volume - Extend

    Just rt click the E drive in Disk mgmt and extend.

    Otherwise - you can make a separate partition - rt click the unallocated space and create a new simple volume - quick format ntfs and accept the offered drive letter.

    Yes , just thought you might like a separate partition. I keep mine fairly small - 100gb max. That makes any housekeeping, imaging, restoring, etc much easier.
