Drive diag tools

Have had a scratch around in here and cannot find what I would like to know.


I tried downloading the Samsung drive diagnostic app and the Seatools drive diagnostics tool.

Now neither of them ran and I am wondering what I have done wrong as I have both brands in the machine my build - i5 2500 Gigabyte H67A-ud3H-B3 running 64bit 7 OS

I was trying to test them out to see how they worked because a person I know has a Samsung 103J problem and couldn't get it to work either.

The Seatools site was just about the most complicated and bureaucratic site I have come across in a long time I ticked the boxes asked it too scan it disappeared to the small screen then came back to the original screen with the boxes unticked and NO report.

I was left with the impression that one has to apply to Seagate for those results and I find this invasive and quite frankly a damn cheek.

Can someone enlighten me what is happening?

I'm not really understanding what you're saying. The usual way to go about would be to download the ISO of Sea Tools DOS version from here

burn it to a disk make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD/DVD and boot the computer with it (it's only 8.5 MB so a CD would be sufficient but if you don't have a cd handy a DVD works to

I personally never had the need to run the Samsung Tool but you should be able to get it from here

(It's an ISO as well, so burn it to disk and go from there)

Hiyya SledgeDG Ok mate will have a go at that as running them from the source isn't going to work.

The Seagate one as I mentioned seemed to do a scan but lead me down some "paper trail" of a form that I got the impression that they would send me what was found. Given that the whole process from scan and back to a rest scan screen took half a minute - then trying to contact them (it's a bit like M$) - a very long a nd tedious exercise just mad e e think either I was doing something wrong or perhaps it was just a fancy way of advertising your products.

Dunnomate I'll give your way a shot, as for Samsung I expected more from them especially as they are becoming one of the more expensive brands around now. Plus I'm not real comfortable with those third party disk checking apps.

Did you download seatools for windows? It should install on your computer and list all the drives in your machine. Put a check mark by the one you want to test, go up top to the tests and select the test you want to run, then click the icon of the drive you checked. It should takea few minutes or longer depending on which test you choose. The short tests take a minute or so.

Yeah essenbe I did download them and tick as you say but got nothing back to Say the drive is ok wonky or whatever - it was just the start up window again.

I have download those ISO's as SledgeDG suggested but being a bit of a novice at doing this am a tad concerned using them in case I bugga up my new build.

Go ahed with the ISO files. Isos usually run from ram. You should not mess up the system. All you are doing is checking the drives. It should not do anything to the drives.

You definitely want to run Seatools from a bootable disc. If it finds any errors, that is the only way you can (hopefully) repair them. I just ran the long test tonight while I was off doing other things. A Guy
