How does 2x4 = 12? Or do you mean you added an additional 2x4 to your existing 2x2? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU Core i7 920 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Memory 12 GB (6x2GB Corsair) Graphics Card nVidia 250GTS Sound Card Built-in Monitor(s) Displays 2x Samsung SyncMaster 2343 (23" Widescreen) Keyboard Microsoft Natural Keyboard Mouse Logitech Laser |

Try swapping the memory modules so that the 4G's are in the current 2G channels and vice versa. Also, try removing the 2 2GB modules and see if you it gives you 8GB. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU Core i7 920 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Memory 12 GB (6x2GB Corsair) Graphics Card nVidia 250GTS Sound Card Built-in Monitor(s) Displays 2x Samsung SyncMaster 2343 (23" Widescreen) Keyboard Microsoft Natural Keyboard Mouse Logitech Laser |

I suspect the new memory may not have matched the existing memory in terms of timings, etc.
How about downloading and installing CPU-Z, run it and then post four screenshots of the four memory slots using the SPD tab.
Also, post a screenshot of the Memory tab.
These should be very helpful in figuring out what's really going on. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home-built, two systems (1) and (2) OS Windows 7 Pro x64 (1), Win7 Pro X64 / WinXP Pro x86 on (2) CPU i5-3350p 3.1Ghz/6MB-cache (1); E8400 3.0Ghz/6MB-cache (2) Motherboard ASUS P8Z77-V Pro (1); ASUS P5Q3 (2) Memory 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1); 4GB PC3-10600 DDR3 (2) Graphics Card ATI HD5770 dual-DVI (1), (see TV cards); ATI HD4850 (2) Sound Card Realtek ALC892 HD Audio (1); Realtek ALC1200 HD Audio (2) Monitor(s) Displays Eizo HD2441W LCD, Eizo S2433W (1); Eizo 24" S2433W (2) Screen Resolution 1920x1200, 1920x1200 (1); 1920x1200 (2) Keyboard IBM PS/2 (1) and (2) Mouse Logitech MX Revolution wireless (1); Microsoft wired (2) PSU Nesteq ECS-6001 600W (1); Nesteq ECS-5001 500W (2) Case Acousti-Case 360 (1) and (2) Cooling Noctua NH-U12P SE2 for CPU, 2x120mm case fans (1) and (2) Hard Drives (1) 1TB SATA-II (7200RPM), 2TB SATA-II (7200RPM), 2TB SATA-III (7200RPM), 250GB SATA-III (10000RPM) for OS;

More than likely your memory is not compatible with your motherboard. You could try tweaking the voltage and other settings, but your motherboard likely has very specific requirements for memory. It looks like you have a P55 chipset which means you have to have memory that is designed for 1.5-1.65 volts. Can you post the specs of your new memory, or at least it's make and model number? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU Core i7 920 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Memory 12 GB (6x2GB Corsair) Graphics Card nVidia 250GTS Sound Card Built-in Monitor(s) Displays 2x Samsung SyncMaster 2343 (23" Widescreen) Keyboard Microsoft Natural Keyboard Mouse Logitech Laser |

Thanks for that last CPU-Z snip.
I think you need the 4gb sticks in slots 1 & 3 & the 2gb sticks in slots 2 & 4
They all look like the same speed but you have 3 diff mfgs of memory. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built them myself, Science Experiments !
