    Touch pad problems

    Hey all.

I have the strangest touch pad problem (Toshiba Satellite l670),

When I boot my computer and have to select my user account, my touch pad works fine, but the moment I select an account and the desktop loads, it stops working!
Now the funny part : When I uninstalled the driver, my system rebooted, Windows 7 recognized my touchpad as a PS2 mouse, and it worked again, even on the desktop, but with diminished functionality.

So I reinstalled the driver (tried both Toshiba's driver and the one from synaptic) and the problem reappears, The touch pad is working fine until the desktop loads.
naturally I tried both fn+f9 and the little enable/disable touch pad button on my laptop, but to no avail I am afraid.

Now I have noticed that in the device manager, the touch pad is not under human interface devices, and I am pretty sure that used to be the case, but scanning for hardware changes doesn't solve anything.

    Does anyone have any idea?

    DDSilver Hi & welcome,

Is your computer currently under Warranty?
How long have you had this problem for?
Have you a system restore point created prior to this happening?
I suggest you troubleshoot Toshiba Product Support & investigate their Forum for similar problems/solutions.

    JMH,

    Thanks for the reply.

    However, I am an idiot.
It seems there are (at least) three levels where you can disable your touch pad :

    1) Device Manager.
    2) Laptop (FN + F9)
    3) Settings menu of the touch pad itself.

I checked the first 2, forgot the last, and never figured it would keep its settings if you uninstall/reinstall the drivers.

But in my defense, it is slightly difficult to reach that menu without a touch pad or mouse. so... well... nah, still an idiot.
