Can't eject USB connect external hard drive

    Hello,

Every so often, I can not eject my USB connected external hard drive.

The attached pop-up states that a program has it open. Is there a way to determine what this program may be?

    Thanks

I get this same error message when I try to eject my external device from the LEFT column (the Navigation Pane) of Windows Explorer, but I don't get the error message when I try to eject it from the RIGHT column. See if that makes a difference for you.

What are you using the external HDD for, backups? If so, try turning off the windows backup service or what ever backup service your are using and then see if you can eject HDD.

What technique are you using to try and eject it?

Are you left-clicking on the "safely remove hardware" icon in the System Tray and then selecting "eject" for the drive?

Or are you using some other method?

    Hi,

External drvie is just to manually backup "stuff". I have automatic backup active, but this is just an additonal backup.

I am left-clicking on the "safely remove hardware" icon in the System Tray and then selecting "eject" for the drive.
