Laptop optical ?tester?

Have a Toshiba L550 Sat with an i5 running 7 Pro my optical drive is now making some rather horrible sounding clonking noises when I put in a disk.

I tried running cleaning disk through it but it's just not reading anything just clonking out this sound something i semaphore code.

Is there a test or test app I can use to try and diagnose what the hell is going on with it.

All help appreciated. OH the machines about 15 months old but I do have an extra 2 years warranty if I need to have it checked, but would rather do it myself if I can.

Sounds as though the drive has packed in. You'll have to get it replaced, as they are generally not repairable. One thing to do is to check that you are putting disks in the correct way up (I've done that myself, and then wondered why it wasn't working).
