ASRock 890FX Deluxe5?

Hey guys,

I just want to know what you guys think about this motherboard.

My motherboard died recently (Tuesday) so I need a new one. I figured that since Bulldozer is coming out next month, I might as well get an AM3+ board so I can upgrade later.

This one seems to me like the best AM3+ board.

What are your opinions?

Thanks!

Typing on a laptop sucks...

I don't know about the 890FX, but I am using their P67 Delux4 and it is rock solid.

Sorry for posting again :/

But, since this board supports DDR3 RAM at 1866MHz, does that mean I can actually OC my ram to that speed and use it? Or is that a limit for the CPU?

Thanks again

You can overclock, but personally I'd get an Asus board. I'd say they are more solid. My AsRock board doesn't come with the 2oz copper layer found in most other motherboards and its slightly cut down size wise. If you want to save some cash, then AsRock is great, but I'd get something like this:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3

the latest BIOS update supports AM3+ as here:

It means pretty much that you will have to OC the system to get your ram up to 1866. The AM3 CPU's controller is on the chip. It will automatically set any ram at 1333 9-9-9-24. In order to increase the ram speed you would probably have to OC the cpu. I have done it before but am no authority. I would suggest you post a question on the Overclocking forum here. They will be able to help more. The new Bulldozer chip is supposed to change the controller.

ASRock A75 Pro4-M or Asrock B75 Pro3-M?
I used the A75 Pro4-M in my current build, but I'm building another for a friend. I'm not sure if I should go with the same board, or use the B75 Pro3-M this time. It's hard to find any reviews on either of these boards. I like the PCIE spacing on the A75 board, but I'd also like to try the...

AMD 890FX Southbridge Driver
I noticed that AMD released a new SB driver (v11.7) on 7-27-11, which I'm pretty sure that I need, but I wanted to check against what is already installed. However, I find nothing in the Device Manager that looks like it...where do I look?

I'm attempting to verify that these drivers did install properly, but going through the Device Manager, I don't find anything that seems to relate. If I understand, a driver download that I have called AllIn1(8.70a_WHQL) is the driver for this purpose, but all that it contains is a file named...

Please take a look at the photo of this motherboard here: ASRock > Products > 890FX Deluxe4 And tell me how it is possible to use the first PCIe x1 slot at the top, because if you look closely, you will see that it is hedged in by the heatsink below the CPU. I do have a card there, but it...
