New Canon printer messing up sleep mode?

I've been aware for about a week of my computer's seeming sudden inability to go to sleep. Slow learner that I am, I finally realized, okay, it was a week ago that I replaced my old HP printer with a Canon iP4820.

Windows 7 will not always go to sleep - related to printer spooler??? describes a phenomenon I think I'm seeing. The computer is almost never asleep, and in fact a lot of the time the display is on, when it used to go dark.

    So my questions are:

    • Is/could the Canon printer be the reason my computer fails to sleep so much lately? (looks like answer is yes)
    • What can I do, without overly compromising printer function, to have it stop taking over my O/S so much?

Hi 450125, did you try stopping the spooler service as in the other thread?
I've not heard of this issue, but Canon may have some info on their help pages or an updated driver for it. Most of the time the enclosed drivers are not current.

Canon's help pages are pretty useless, although I did email them a question about this.

I am at work now but will look into stopping the spooler when I get home.
