Hi
I just bought an LG BE12 blu ray writer, but when I try to install the software that came bundled with it, I get "Error 1601 Windows installer cannot be accessed" I have tried all of the "fixs" on the microsoft web site, and a few more that wernt, all to no avail. LG customer service are worse than useless, and Cyberlink keep sending me emails that go round in circles
I am running Win 7 64 ultimate
I have enclosed the 2 files that Cyberlink asked for
Cheers
Welcome to Seven Forums davyburns. Since you've already been Googling fixes, I'll suggest something you might not have found.
Download to desktop this small standalone program Safe MSI. Boot to safe mode, click on Safe MSI. It should start the windows installer. Now try to install the software. It just may work in safe mode if something normally running in windows is preventing it. Good luck. A Guy
Thanks for that, but I'm afraid I get the same error. I also have PowerDVD by Cyberlink installed on my machine, and if I try to uninstall that, I get the same message.
Its a shame you cant get a standalone instalation of WI5
I'm beginning to hate 7!!
We encourage you to download and use the latest version of the Windows Installer SDK tools (Windows Installer 5.0) included with the RTM release of Windows SDK for Windows 7.
Windows Installer 5 is not available as a standalone version and you can either download Windows 7 SDK Web installer or the Windows 7 SDK ISO file. The advantage of the web installer is you can choose to install any subset of the SDK. It however requires you to be connected to the internet. The ISO file is a complete package and it can even be installed on a computer not connected to the internet.
We are assuming a Windows Installer problem, but perhaps the installation installer is corrupt. I assume it is on a CD? If the error is only on that installer, I'd see if you can't download the file from the LG site perhaps? I find no BE12, so again assume that isn't the full model#?
If it is a disc problem you might be lucky actually; the limited cyberlink software that comes with the burner is not worth much and just there to tease you to buy the full programs.
If you have any burning software on your system it most likely will burn to BD media. If you have the latest of Nero or Roxio (not recommending them now) they will allow you to play BD media. If not you need to look at Total Media Theater 5 from ArcSoft which is the best blu-ray player software available.
I have the latest from Nero, Roxio, and almost every burning program there is which I am fortunate enough to get for free since I use and highlight these programs in optical drive reviews I have done for LG, ASUS and Sony over the past few years.
Sorry, I don't have anything to recommend for your install problem that has not been covered by A Guy already.
