Internal Fan

My HP laptop's fan is running awfully high. I am playing the sims 3 and I can hear the fan running on high. It will eventually go quiet then start up running on high again. Is this anything to be worried about?

How hot is the computer? Is it on a table or a bed or a couch?

The left side of the touch pad is warm. However, it is sitting on a desk. I felt the desk underneath the laptop and it's HOT!
