i have this problem now. i dont know how it became corrupted. seemingly impossible to fix. and.. unfortunately i turned restore points off.

my drives are a similar sony dvdrw and an nec dvdrw.

if this happens to anyone else or if you read this rob3, do you happen to have any Roxio software installed?
Have you installed your chipset drivers..Im not sure what was causing this but i reformatted and it seemed to fix the problem..I also allowed the
install to create its own partition size..When i had this happen i made my own partition and it made an extra 200 partition..I dont have roxio software
installed..I would try the chipset drivers first..

Win 7 much have not installed right becuase I haven't install a driver for CD-Rom from all must ten years back in win95 days. Windows will install a basic drive for all CD-Roms. Here a screen shoot of my device manager.

One thing that you can try is unplug yor drives and reboot the computer into windows. Then shut down the computer and plug back in the drives and see what happens. Windows should see the new hardware and install it.

    Hi Airmark,

    Welcome to the Forum.

That's the famous upper and lower filters removal. Usually they get there via some 3rd party app.

They shouldn't be there after a clean install.

Worth checking as could possibly be the case following an upgrade installation, or if any 3rd party dvd burning apps. have been installed.

Yeah, i am pretty new to this stuff. I am, so far, impressed with the Windows7. Might keep me from going to Mac.:)

    But, thanks for the reply.
