Bluetooth mouse won't connect anymore

I love my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, but there's one niggling problem I keep having: I can't get it to recognise my bluetooth mouse consistently. It was working at one point, then one reboot too many and it just wouldn't work anymore.

My laptop has the built-in Dell Wireless 365 bluetooth module, I use Windows 7 and my bluetooth mouse is a Logitech V470 (model no: M-RCQ142 ).

I have the latest driver for the 365 bluetooth adaptor (R228749) and have installed it and reinstalled it. My mouse has fresh batteries, is right next to the laptop, is switched on and has a "connect" button that I've tried pressing. I'm sure it's discoverable.

I'm not sure that my mouse is not already recognised, and then ignored, by the laptop. In device manager, under Mice and other pointing devices, I have:
- HID-compliant mouse
- Logitech HID-compliant MX320 Laser Mouse (this is the wired mouse I'm using in the interim)
- PS/2 Compatible Mouse

I uninstalled the drivers for the "HID-compliant mouse" item, and it came back after reinstalling the R228749 bluetooth adaptor driver. But the mouse still isn't recognised.

I've also gone into Services and ensured both "Bluetooth Service" and "Bluetooth Support Service" are set to automatic start (as Local System).

Any help would be appreciated, I'd love to get my bloody mouse working consistently.

further info

I've also now tried reinstalling the Logitech Setpoint software with the latest version, it made no difference. And the Event Viewer shows no messages when I try to get the mouse to connect.

Update for anyone who stumbles across this same problem years later: I gave up trying to figure out what specifically needed to be changed to fix the problem. I did a full reformat & reinstall of the OS and the aforementioned Dell driver software. This got the mouse working again, so then I backed up the whole system. That should get me out of trouble next time.

If your Bluetooth Mouse quits working after a Windows 7 update, try the following.

Go into Control Panel -> Device and Printers and see if there is a mouse (or 2) already there. If so, right click on the mouse picture and Remove it. Repeat for all of the phantom mice.

Reboot and try the discovery process again.

Works on Vista also.

Found a way without reformatting

Had the same issue - could see the mouse, but it would not pair with one computer - paired normally and worked with a 2nd computer. This was the solution that worked for me (Win7 enterprise machine):

Go into the Registry and browse to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\BTHPORT\Parameters\Devices\

Delete the subkey that matches the device's bluetooth address. (I found the address in the mouse properties, bluetooth tab)

Once I did that the mouse paired with no problem. Hope that helps someone else who stumbles on this looking for an answer.
