Depends on what hardware and how skilled you are at replacing hardware

What is "all in one pc" ?

Never heard of that. Is it one of those things where the only separate bit is the keyboard?

My major concern with all-in-one anything is the issues encountered if a sub system fails - the whole system must be taken out of use to repair one part.

Dependent on the actual all-in-one PC it may be possible to replace components with easily sourced parts or not - we all have experience with all-in-one systems and their upgrade/repair/cost issues - Laptops are a common form of all-in-one and these are considerably more difficult and expensive to maintain, but the advantages outweigh the issues.

I personally do not see any real advantage to a desktop system in the all-in-one design

    These are 'All In Ones'

To the OP, you might be able to upgrade things like the HDD, CPU and RAM but you may be stuck with upgrading the graphics due to the space limitation.

But i would just opt for a desktop but get a mini system like a barbones system.

Yes, thought it might one of those. Strange terminology - laptops and notebooks are also all in one of course.

What is the point of it?

There must be a huge price and performance penalty compared to buying a desktop.

Another victory of "form over function"

The only minor advantage is that there are fewer cables to worry about

You get right down to it that is all those all-in-one's really are, a laptop built into the monitor; they use the same CPU's and GPU's as a laptop.

As far as upgrading goes, they have all the same limitations for that as a laptop does.

Oh, really. Learn something new everyday.

I always assumed that All-in-one PCs were initially a slimed down version of desktop with desktop componenets, never realised they use Lappy componenets.

Mind they probably run just as warm i bet.
