msconfig boot option problem please help

Hello everyone, I have just recently went to msconfig, went to boot option tab then clicked on advanced tab, and it was showing 8 cores for start up, I changed it to 4, restarted my computer, and now it only shows 4, not 8 how do I get the 8 back? hopefully someone has an answer for me :)

hi StaceyMorgan, and welcome to sevenforums,

i'm not sure why you changed it in the first place - were you getting problems before?

just untick the box, and all should be ok.

Go back to that tab and UNCLICK number of processors. Why are you messing with it in the first place?

I was getting a voltage warning by another software so I wanted to see it that had anything to do with it since it was overclocked, so i set it to the actual 4 cores and rebooted, but the voltage error was the same so then i used a different program which gave me the right voltage but now in that program it says theres only 2 cores, and in msconfig there is only the options of setting 1-4 cores, i cant go any higher.

maybe you've gone too high with your overclock?

bring your speed and voltages back down to default levels, and see if that sorts it.

what was the voltage warning? too high or too low?

Also let me stress that I have not overclocked this computer, I was told by Asus tech, that having 8 cores at boot up was overclocking, I by no means ever overclocked my computer so please don't read my last post as I am overclocking and making mistakes, that isn't the case, just want to clear that up.

I'm not having a overclock issue, that's why I just made my new post, my issues is that before I touched the advanced tab in msconfig boot tag, it showed 8 cores, I put it on 4, rebooted and now it ONLY shows 4, not the original 8, and now my computer is only showing 2 cores in my ' programs ' I'm using to show the voltages, I want to fix the boot menu back to 8, and see if that will show my 4 cores, not 2, that is what I want, I'm not having ' overclocking ' issues, I misused the term, my apologies.

    sorry, you've got me there.

i've had zero experience with 8 core machines, so am unable to assist further. my definition of overclocking is making components run at higher than default speeds - i don't know what the asus guys are saying.

luckily there are many knowledgable forums members here who will hopefully read this thread and suggest some answers for you.

my processor isn't really ' 8 ' core, this is the exact information on it, it is quad core with 4 virtual cores, I have given the information below to further explain I have also included the motherboard underneath the processor information

intel core i7-2600 3.4GHz sandy bridge LGA 1155

    asus p8p67 pro rev 3.0
