    Thermal Paste

After reading some good reports on Shin Etsu thermal paste, I bought some, but am having a lot of problems with getting it to spread properly. It tends to clump together, and when forcing it out, it leaves such a thin covering that the lettering on the CPU is still plainly visible.

I'm about to wipe it off, and return to AS5, but before doing so, I wanted to see if I'm doing something wrong, or if this paste is over rated?

I think that the tube of paste is either getting old or its not been stored at a proper tempature or even maby a manufacturing defect. After looking online it seems that there is not much difference between as5 and the shin etsu as there are both the best pastes on the market. Hope this helps

I found this thread on the subject, and it's good to know that this paste is difficult to use, because I was beginning to feel that either I had received some past it's shelf life, or there was some kind of magic to using it:

Guide to applying Shin-Etsu G751 - PC Perspective Forums

Considering the instructions, I don't think the benefit would be worth the hassle, and will probably return to AS5.

I don't buy into a lot of these thermal paste arguments that 1 is far superior to the others. I use whatever I can find and whatever is available. And once I put it on and apply the heatsink, that's really it. 1 time, done.

That is some difficult TIM for sure.

There truly is a performance factor depending on which TIM you use. Having used most everything available and reviewing a substantial number of aftermarket coolers both Big Air and Water I have found the most consistent and all around best performance to be MX-2 by Arctic Cooling.

I will have to check it out the next time I have a custom build (if ever), its also not that expensive and has good reviews.
