Windows 7 Professional - Lemark Printer Problem

Ever since I had a new laptop (Acer Travelmate 5742) which came with Windows 7 Professional I have had problems printing with my old Lemark printer and now my new one. The new one is Pinnacle Pro 901. The problem is intermittent and is very frustrating as the printer just doesn't for some reason see an instruction to print. Switch the printer on and off and it might work again but it really is pot luck! If you go to the spooler the print does not appear there either. Go back to the printer 5 minutes later and send a print and is works fine. I just don't know what the problem is. The reason I bought a new printer was to cure the problem but it hasn't so I can only assume that it a problem with the Lexmark brand and my operating system and/or my laptop. Any ideas?

    open the control panel
    go to power options
    click change plan settings
    in the window that opens
    click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

I'm guessing this feature is active and is messing with your printer that apparently just assumes the usb is live all the time.

Thanks, changed the settings and everything was fine until just now when the printer has decided not to work again! So I am afraid that it has not worked :-(

Let's try simply resetting the power on both the computer and the printer.

If that doesn't solve this we may try to create a minidump file to look over for errors.
One step at a time though.
