    which phenom black

    hi folks
just after a little advice again. im gonna buy an AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition. i was originally gonna get the 965 3.4Ghz but im thinkin i may get the 955 3.2Ghz instead.
i mainly use my pc for gaming. (battlefield3 on the horizon) and burning, copying movies.
so my questions r. is there much difference in performance between the 2?
will the stock heatsink b ok? it looks it. or should i go for Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler?
this is the mobo im using Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H rev 3.1

thanks in advance for ur help folks

No, there won't be any noticeable difference between 3.2Ghz and 3.4 Ghz, but they are very close in price, so go with the 965 Black Edition. I have one and ran it to 4.0Ghz, but I don't play games. :)

Just checked Newegg and there is $21USD difference.

For a little extra I would go for the 1090T

Either would be a good choice, but like Britton said for $21, go for the 965 Black. If you are not going to OC, the stock cooler would be OK. If you are I suggest an aftermarket cooler. Check out the reviews on the Artic freezer and look at the Hyper 212+ also.

I am using This Enzotech. It was easy to install, cools well, and can be mounted in different directions. I have mine mounted so the air flow goes over my RAM sticks.
The stock cooler is noisy because it has such a tiny fan thereby needing to run at jet speed to get the airflow up.

agreed! lol i havent got enzotech money does look the part tho. im ordering an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 2moz which i believe can b mouted sideways too. i only installed my cpu on weds using the pre applied thermal paste n my idle temp is still a tad high 44c @idle and 55c ingame. is my temp likely to come down anymore? ive also ordered some arctic silver5 is there much difference between that and the pre applied one? it looked a tad thick.

Yes, Arctic Silver is supposed to be very good, it is what I used too. The factory paste is not very good. Just put a rice-size glop of the Arctic in the center of the CPU, lower the cooler on it and apply some pressure while rotating it and tighten it up. don't take it off to see if it spread, it does. I've had to use a screwdriver to pry a cooler off using this method. Works very well. You will be, well, cool, man.
