is all this compatable?

hello im kinda new to tinkering and fooling around with computers. always been interested in it tho. as a starting project went and got me a computer form the pawn shop. this acer Aspire M1100 cuaght my eye and saw it was AMD.
though cool should be good for starting and its cheaper.

came with 244GB Seagate HDD and i added a 39.1GB Seagate HDD and a 156GB Western Digital HDD from some old busted up PC's i had. other then that i havnt done anything to it.


currently this is whats in it:
=AMD Athlon 64 X2 BE-2300
=1.00 GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 199MHz
=Acer F690GVM


this is what i want to add to it:

GeForce 9500 GT Video Card

AMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8GHz AM2+ Quad Core Processor (OEM)

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit


i just dont know if its all compatable with eachother or not. or if the cpu is compatable with the board. someone told me something about just bc the cpu goes with the socket doesnt mean its compatable with the board.

The online information on the M1100 is a bit sparse. Here are ACer's specs:

It seems to be limited to 1GB DDR2 DIMMs. If you need 4GB, it'd have to be 4X1GB.

It has a PCI-E X16 graphics slot, so the 9500GT graphics card should be OK with that. The 250W power supply is below the 350W minimum recommended for the card, though.

I don't know about the CPU. I checked Asus: the sole board that they list with the same AMD chipset does not support any Phenom II CPUs, even though they are nominally AM2+ compatible.

ok well the 1 GB sticks i can live with
just get some fast 1 gig's 4 gigs ram is not a problem

so can the board handle a quade core and if so whats your recomendation
price doesnt matter just want a fast quadcore to throw in this thing

and what would you recoment for a graphics card

maybe 4 sticks of this will help

basicly what people here are saying is to use the ram you listed and the cpu, you'll need to purchase a different motheboard.

it is probably the easiest solution to the problem, that way you can pick the cpu then pick the motherboard and other components to match.

but if you don't want to do that then you can just use the great advice above on which components to aim for:)

well thats kinda disapointing. i buaght this thing so i cant try and build something better with it but looks like thats a nogo lol.
owell i guess i can pick out a cpu then motherboard and work from there. but building one is more costly then upgrading. thanks for all the info
