new build setting up ssd questions

hi im pretty much set on what im getting for my first build but i have some questions about running an ssd as my main os drive

i plan to get the intel 510 and put windows 7 on there along with my programs and my music, vids pics and other stuff on my internal hard drive

i know before i setup windows 7 to go into bios and set the ssd for ahci..is there anything else i should do before the windows 7 install or during?

my other question is what that defaults to the c drive should i move to the ssd and how do i do it?

this is most of the programs i will install will be a bunch others but this is the majority of it

my main concern is certain programs that will be on the ssd that might write to disk often like firefox..so how do i for example setup firefox ideally for use with an ssd along with any other programs you see on the list that might need something directory changed ?

You can target utorrent to put it's files on another drive.
As you can with most of those apps. Just go into their individual settings and tell them to use your other drive for write processes.

You don't have to do anything if you are dealing with a new SSD.

AHCI is generally considered the best choice.

Windows 7 is smart enough to do the few necessary things automatically, such as turn off defrag and set the proper alignment. But you can check on that stuff after you get Windows installed.

The concern about writing too much to an SSD appears to be greatly overdone. I'd install all programs onto the SSD if they will fit. I wouldn't worry about moving anything off of it that is there by default.

Well you will want to check for updates for your ssd's firmware.
Many of them have had crucial updates to their firmware since release.

After installation turn off Hibernate with an elevated command prompt. It will save space on the SSD. It takes up the same amt. of space as the installed ram. Elevated Coand promt type powercfg -h off then enter.

Make sure defrag is turned off, verify trim and that's all that is needed.
