    Need advice regarding Processors

Hi there, I required some help in choosing a new processor for my pc and do not know what make or model to get and if the processor will be compatible.

My mother board is a fairly old one, model: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-K8N51GMF-9 s939
    Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F4 03/09/2006

My current processor is a 2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 3200x2
    256 kilobyte primary memory cache
    512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    64-bit ready
    Not hyper-threaded

    I was looking at getting a AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 or a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ which both use the s939.

If anyone can help me in regards to choosing the right processor and some guidance in replacing my old one I would be very grateful. If you require anymore info on this matter please ask and I will post here..

Many thanks for taking the time to even read this

A CPU upgrade won't cause any noticable speed increase since your board is old, I'll suggest geeting a new one

However these might fit your needs
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.4 GHz Processor
AMD Athlon 64 FX 2.6 GHz Processor
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.2 GHz Processor

Note that a BIOS update might be required

    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 939 - GA-K8N51GMF-9 (rev. 1.0)
I thought that a new motherboard may be the case... something I really do not feel comfortable about fitting as it is a lot more hard work than a processor. thank you for your quick response to my situation. I will look around for a new motherboard to price up unless you also can recommend one to me.

    I second the motherboard upgrade.

However, Gigabyte publishes a CPU compatibility list for the board:

    GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Socket 939 - NVIDIA GeForce 6100 - GA-K8N51GMF-9 (rev. 1.0)

The highest-clocked CPU is an Athlon64 X2 4800+ "Toledo" chip.
