    Create partition from unallocated space

I have 500 GB harddisc on my laptop with three partitions. I wanted to split the 400gb into 300 + 100 GB. So, I went to disc management and shurnk the volume to 300GB. I saw 100GB unallocated space. But, when I try to create a new partition with that unallocate space, I get a message that 'media not writable' and the 100gb remains unallocated.
I have used a software called 'MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition'. But, it couldn't apply the changes either.

Please, let me know how can I create a new parition with my 100gb unallocated space.

Can you please post a screenshot of either Partition Wizard's view of your disks, or a screenshot from DISKMGMT.MSC.

Please maximize the window first and spread the columns so that all text is visible.

    Thanks.

since general partion tools not working
i guess some damage was done to the partition table
use TestDisk tool , a freeware i guess.
after deep search , it may show some infos about partions on the HDD.
if anything wrong, it will be shown with some value infos
try to change the values as suggested.

if still not working and the hdd is not the system hdd(the one on which os is intalled)
i strongly recommend you write zeros to all sectors with a low formatting tool.
my experience tells me it is a good way to free you from headache.
    hdd problems are time consuming
    good luck!
    thanks

Hmm ... that's strange ... I never have encountered any HDD problem before. So, I am a bit lost. This is a brand new machine, only about 7 days old laptop.
So, if there is any problem such as this, is there any way I will able to fix it ... or, do I need to take it to the HCL service centre?

It really would help us to potentially offer some possible solution or action steps if you would post a screenshot from either (a) Partition Wizard, or (b) DISKMGMT, expanded to full screen first and with columns spread so that all text in the columns is visible.

Before you start, do you make Recovery disks?
