    error?

I have got an acer myself and did the same recovery option. After following the above instruction by diamond, there is no error button. Did I do something wrong? Do I keep the base as hexadecimal after changing the setup.exe value to 3? It is 0x00000003(3) actually

Same here - didn't get the "OK" for any "error"... This thing has been stuck on "Setup is starting services" for going on 40 freakin' hours now... I ended up ditching the idea of trying to fix it for the time being and went out and bought a new machine that I could use to send Acer a fairly scathing email about their lack of support - but in my case I was *forced* by the machine into the recovery and have very important work-related data to try and recover... so it's not only necessary but a principle as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1) On the same error screen press SHIFT+F10 and it will open up a black Window. (a command prompt window) 2) In the black windows type the word "regedit"(without the inverted commas and hit enter. That will open the registry editor. In the Registry Editor.. Browse to.... HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion, and after highliting childcompletion,on the right hand side check for setup.exe. if the value is 1 change it to 3.(by double clicking on setup.exe and changing the value shown in the box). Then close the registry editor and then also close the black window. Then click on OK for the error and the computer will restart and the installation may complete. just try it and let me know if it worked.
    Diamonded,

This is terrific! After applying your patch, my computer resumed the installing process. Whenever the computer rebooted during that process, I had to apply your patch again. But the installation process ultimately finished successfully.

I'm surprised I haven't found your patch reposted on other sites, including Microsoft's support sites.

Thanks loads! You saved me hours of hair-pulling.

    P. S. I joined this forum specifically to thank you!
