    Formatting HD Software

Good software, preferably free which can be used on Windows 7 and Xp for formatting hard drives. I think the drive I have, which is primary so not to important may be corrupted and all the software I use including windows format does not work. Any ideas? Any software you have used before?

Try this, it is a pretty good program. And there is a bootable CD version (see the left side of the webpage) that you can run independent of any OS. Best Free Partition Manager Freeware for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

If you go to the drive manufacturers web site you should be able to find a free download for a diagnostics utility and drive formating tools. You should be able to find a utility there that will do the equivalent of the factory low level formate. I'd run the diagnostics first though just to be sure the drive isn't going bad.
