slow installation and boots up Win7

    Hello,
My pc OS Win7 suddenly got NTLOADER boot problem and cannot boot. Had tried to repair the MBR with the installed disc but w/out sucess. So I formated the whole hdisk and reinstall the win7 os. This time I took 10 hrs to install the os. The pc was very slow in installation and finally finished the process but the pc booted up slow .Had go thru the forum and notice some people suggested the following:
    1) disable the floppy if don't have
    2) disable the usb controller
    3) press F5 during installation
    4) remove 2G of ram (as mine had 4G)
Had done 1 to 3 but no changes .When I remove 2G of ram there's a vast improvement of speed in booting. So I fixed in 2G of ram in re-do installation of the win 7 os . plug back 2 more G of ram in hopefully it will recognised as upgrade of ram. But the pc still booted up very slowly(about 45mins) Can the Motherboard hit by any virus to slow down the process in install and boot up.

    The specs as following:
    MSI P6N SLI motherboard
    Core2duo E6550 2.33GHz
    4 G OCZ Reaper series PC2 6400
    Win 7 64bits OS

Can someone helps on the problem I encounter.
    Thks

With memory you can check to see if the memory is compatible with the motherboard eg corsair has a memory finder tool - go here - Learn & Explore under learn and explore click memory finder - Learn & Explore then under find compatible products type in your details you can also go to your motherboards site -support -downloads - then type in the name of your motherboard.

Windows 7 has a memory diagnosis tool you can run by typing memory after clicking start. Im just trying to remember the better one - memtest86 : Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

My pc was working fine with the same os and config earlier after it was hit by ntloader missing problem. Had done memtest 86 but found no error. The ram should be compatible.
    Thks

    hi there :)
could you please fill out your system specs please as this will help the members of the forum help diagnose problems if they can see your set up :)

download this program rammon by pasmark (its Free) to help establish if the ram is ok be sure to choose the right program for 32 or 64 bit PassMark RAMMon - Identify RAM type, speed & memory timings

RAMMon is an easy to use Windows based application that allows users to quickly retrieve the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data from their RAM modules. It will allow users to identify a multitude of attributes, of which, includes the manufacturer, the clockspeed and other data of their DDR2, DDR3, XMP and EPP memory devices and even some older memory types. It uses SysInfo DLL SDK to gather the SPD attributes from RAM devices. This information provides a snapshot of the available data for each RAM module installed on the system.

    What is SPD?
Serial Presence Detect (SPD) is the standard set forth by JEDEC for a host system to retrieve attributes of memory modules. The SPD standard is intended for use on any memory module, independent of memory technology or module form factor.

RAMMon displays the values stored on RAM module such as the memory capacity, the manufactuer, serial number, model part number, the CAS latencies supported and the module voltage.

Also, depending on your RAM type, other specific SPD data can be retreived as well. Such as the module thickness, module width, maximum operating temperature and more.

Slow startup is usually caused by an incompatible device/driver.

The first thing I would recommend is disconnecting everything that's not essential, and see does that solve the issue. If it does, then add devices back over time to see if/when the problem returns. antivirus software can slow boot up time but not to the
extreme boot up time you have quoted here is a program you can run that will show you statistics mass360 boot analyzer >> MaaS360 Boot Analyzer Review - MaaS360 Boot Analyzer Download - Softpedia

I would also be checking for a bios update at the MSI site if you find the hard drive is ok - see below:

Have you tested the hard drive for errors - download a hard drive diagnostic tool from the manufactures site of the drive eg Seagates (Sea tools for windows) to confirm a failing drive - and if it fails the tests and its still under warranty have it replaced for no cost - you can try a short test first and if passes you will have to do the long test, however if they run slow you will have to use the dos test, and burn the ISO to a cd see below:

Seagate provide a tool ( Sea tools dos) that zeros the drive which literally does that, as it returns the drive to new and requires initializing again before you can reuse it. It will also do the long and short tests mentioned above.

Still think its the memory incompatibility for an unknown reason, or in need of a bios update - however, if anything is corrupted to do with the boot zeroing the drive removes it all.
