    Lenovo purchase gone bad

    Hello,
Heres the story, Ill try to be brief. I bought this computer K330-77273GU on 6/1.Lenovo - IdeaCentre - Desktop PCs - K Series- K330 Had a code for 20% off so I paid $800 for it. (Feel free to comment on the computer.) Needed it fairly quick so I shopped a bit but didn't dig too deep. My bad. After I received it I found this forum and started digging. Wanted to know exactly what was inside for upgrades later and I just wanted to know.

I found out Intel recalled some motherboards back in Jan. or Feb. I believe, but was shipping new mobos with the problem corrected. I have this mobo but said to myself surly the BRAND NEW COMPUTER I BOUGHT DIRECTLY FROM LENOVOS WEB SITE must have the new mobo. I sat on this info for a while but it bugged me so I called today. Guess what, I HAVE THE OLD MOBO.

I was told by the operator that the mobo could be replaced, the computer could be replaced or I could receive a refund. He gave me another number to call when I make a decision. Haven't called yet. What a way to do business. How long will they continue to sell computers with this defective mobo?

I realize the problem is with sata ports 2-5 and I am only using 0-1 now, but really. One of the reasons I gave Lenovo a shot was the IBM name behind it. That worked out well for me.

So now after Ive slowly installed my programs and data so if I had a problem I would know the culprit, I have to start all over. Thing is I was liking the computer.

Feel free to comment on the computer, Lenovo, the service, what you would do or what ever. I think they should send me the $1400 model. I bought the $1000 one.

    Thanks

As Lenovo have given you three positive outcomes you've come out on top already.

Replace the motherboard, replace the computer or a full refund? I think Lenovo have made the right call.

Asking them to send you a far more expensive one than the one you freely bought is pushing the boundaries of customer service too much I feel.

If they'd done nothing or tried to fob you off, then you would have a gripe. As it is, take what you think is best for you - you've already said you like the computer.

I'd use the hardware Tech Support to the hilt: Get it replaced, then shake it out thoroughly for the first year to make sure it's perfect before the coverage runs out.

The standard to judge for Win7 is whether the performance is always instantaneous and never hangs.

Sometimes a factory preinstall can weigh down 7 performance so that cleaning up the bloatware is enough. If not clean reinstall with just the Win7 OS using the Product Key on the COA sticker.

    Here's how:
    Clean Up Factory Bloatware
    Reinstalling Windows 7

Lenovo is an excellent company. They are giving you some positive options. Take them up on the one you like best.

    Thanks for the replys.
Customer service was good and I like the computer so Ill call tomorrow and go for the replacement. I didn't really think they would give me the $1400 computer. (Just wishful thinking.)

Hope they will send the replacement before I have to ship mine back so I don't have to be without a computer for while. They knew about the mobo, its not like the problem was discovered after they shipped it.

    Later, Roy

    Heres my update.

After a few more phone calls I decided to get the replacement. I was also able to have them send me a WD 3.0 usb 1 TB external HD for my inconvenience. All was well. :)

I received the computer Wed., put my programs and data back on it, and all still seemed well.

Today I called to have them check my serial number and see if the new computer was part of the recall. I expected good news. I also found this on their support web page.

    See the highlighted text.

So now the bad news. They sent me another recalled computer.
So I'm back to square one after almost 2 months. I have to call another number on Monday to talk to someone else. Too aggravated to call today.

Good company or not they screwed this one up.

If you have software that will read the motherboard ID, it might say that it's Step 3 or B3. This would indicate the motherboard has been replaced. If it has, I don't see a problem. Many of the Mfgs did just that. My Intel board was replaced by the vendor.

I won't mention which software since apparently there's a few on this forum that think their choice is the best and get very annoyed with the suggestion of something better. They'll be along in no time to give details. :)

    Well. What's the status?

    Lenovo is an excellent company.

To find hardware info about your computer, I recommend SIW (link in my sig).

"Intel P67 Revision B3" is the updated chip set designation. If your attachment is from the new PC, you should be good to go.
