    External hard drive

I have a 250gb Seagate Expansion drive- I have not disconnected it improperly at all. When I connect it to my computer the drive turns on (green light displays on the drive) but my computer does... nothing. Doesn't recognize it at all. I've tried going into disk management in my control panel, but it doesn't even show up there. Suggestions please?

    Alennia,
Welcome to SF. Are you plugging this into the same usb 2.0 port you normally had when it worked previously?

Yes, I am. My laptop has two USB ports, I've tried both of them and they do the same thing

How about re-booting and leaving this drive connected.....same thing?

Sadly still nothing. Checked in disc management again, just in case, and it's still not there.

Also feel the drive when it lights up for a vibration to tell if it's spinning?

I can hear something going inside it when I hook it up, but I don't feel any vibrations. It's not in Windows Explorer either. Please tell me this isn't drive death.

Do you have any other computers that you can connect it to, to see if it can be seen on them ?

On a whim, I just tried switching out the cable it came with for the ancient cable to my MP3 player. Turns out the cable is what's hosed, got it going now. Feeling like an idiot, also. Thanks for the help guys!
