Monitor Issues

Another month, another set of issues.

While playing a video game, my monitor unexpected turned off (HP w1907, connected via DVI). I had to press the power button on the monitor to turn it off, then press it again to turn it back on. Afterwards, it will only stay on for about 5 seconds before it turned back off.

This is the very first time I have encountered an issue with this monitor. I have had this monitor for about 4 years with no problems whatsoever.

After the initial incident, I restarted the computer and realized the monitor did not turn on during the boot up process. It appeared once on the post screen, but went back. I had to turn off the monitor and turn it back on to see what my PC was on the boot up. Once I'm in Windows (Windows 7, Pro), the monitor stays on for a few minutes before it turns itself off. I leave it off for about 2 or so minutes and turn it back on to a somewhat stable monitor experience. Usually in about 5 or so minutes, the process it repeated.

In fact, while I'm typing this message up, I've the screen went black and every time I hit the power button off, then on again, it will come up. Also, before the monitor screen goes black, I noticed that it dims first. So it dims slightly, then goes off a second later.

So far, the only remedies attempted:

• Plugged monitor and PC into wall outlet: Fail.
• Restore point: Fail.
• Installed new video card drivers: Fail.
• Installed new monitor drivers: Fail.

I built this PC almost a year ago. I don't believe it is the video card (FX Series 7) or power supply (750W), because both have been replaced RMA earlier this year. I'm going to buy a new DVI wire, but I don't see any obvious issues with the wire.

Thank you for the read. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'd hate to have to buy a new monitor for such a random reason.

Update:

Using the same wire, I plugged the monitor into a spare computer. The issue occurred again. At least I narrowed it down to a wire or monitor issue. One of the two are screwed up. If it turns out to be the monitor, does anyone have any suggestions other than to buy a new monitor?
