Windows 7 - Middle mouse problem

I have an application that requires me (often) to click and drag the middle mouse button and am having a problem. Im on Windows 7 64bit.

What I am finding is that on my particular machine, if the mouse wheel (which is also can be clicked as a middle button) is rolled while i try to click it, that middle click is not registered. The problem is that a good percentage of time clicking the wheel will also accidentally rolls it, and thus my middle mouse button event is not registered.

I tried 2 other mice and they have the same problem. I also tried this on friend's Win 7 64 machine and this does not happen. I tried reinstalling the mouse drivers (its just a typical optical mouse), but that doesnt seem to solve the problem. I have also tried many adjustment to the mouse configuration off the control panel, and haven't found a solution.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know how i could go about fixing it?
