Windows 7 - Hard Drive Question

Hard Drive Question

I just bought 4 Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb each for a total of 2TB. I set them up as RAID 5, but I am curious if something is wrong or if this is correct.

Using the Intel Rapid Storage program, it breaks out the RAID 5 in to 4 hard drives and it shows that each is 466GB. But if you total that, it comes out to around 1.8TB. But as you can see from the pic, it is showing 1.4TB. I did do a full format, not a quick one and i also confirmed this in the Computer Management area.

So why 1.4TB and not 1.8TB? As you can see my first array is 149 and 149 totaling 298 and that is reflected. Just curious if I did something wrong or if that is suppose to be like this.

I am using it as a basic disk, going to put my movie library on it once I know it safe to proceed. Thanx

That is correct. Entering the data 4, 500, and RAID 5 here RaidCalc - Raid Disk Space Utilization Calculator - Raid, RAID, Redundancy, Performance - iBeast Business Solutions yields the results you show above.
