And if that happens there is a very good chance of it taking out some other component(s) when it does. The usual suspect when that sort of thing happens is for the power supply to take the motherboard with it.

Replace the fan ASAP.

Install the highest wattage that the space will permit and that your pocketbook will allow.

Correct, a higher wattage won't harm anything. It will only put out what it is called on to. As Stormy stated a bad PSU can make toast out of several other components, like a domino effect, avoid using it till you have the new PSU installed.

Eeeeeekk!

I better get my skates on and get shopping!

I have been looking already and have found a couple of 600W PSU's that look like a good deal and have had good reviews. Now that's I know its safe to use one with a higher wattage I'll be fine

Thanks for all your help!

You guys are great!!

I would still recommend you buy a good quality one. Yes, they cost more but you do get what you pay for.

Hope none of them are CIT or Powercool or Arctic Power, most of which are cheap junk and used as a store brand of some kind at most UK computer sites. Post up some links of what you're looking at.

Any way to figure out which HDD is making too much noise?
So, I have six SATA 7200 rpm HDDs in my computer. One of them is making too much noise. It's actually the normal noise a HDD makes - it's just that the noise went from inaudible from the other side of the room, to very audible. I am not looking forward to opening the case, and disconnecting each...

CPU fan is making a strange noise
I've had this computer since March and I'm using the stock heat sink it came with. Recently I've noticed that sometimes programs will be unresponsive for 4-6 seconds and then it will go back to normal. The same thing can be said about the mouse, sometimes it doesn't even move. I took apart the side...

PSU making a lot of noise
I have Thermaltake Toughpower 800W PSU! Its fan makes really loud noise when playing PC games! I tried to oil the fan like I did with my CPU fan, but I could not get to PSU fan without opening the PSU itself! Should I open it? Or maybe there is another way to fix this!

PSU making noise!
My PSU just started making a noise, like if something's touching the fan. It's a different computer from the one in my specs. It's a sturdy black one, however this PC has no case and the PSU is positioned in a way that the fan is on top and sucks in air, so a lot of dust goes in. Since September it...
