50Hz-60Hz is for the type power you have in Ireland. the switch is there because its most likely sold all over Europe where there are differing power available. Hz=1 cycle, alternating current reverses that many times per second.

I knew it was an LCD but it probably has a fluorescent back light which uses a high voltage step up circuit

i think it is a tft lcd also this montior is from the december 2007 as it says on the back but it surely it would not use over 60 watts also how would i know if it had a fluorescent back light also on the montior menu would it not have a option for a back light here is the monitor
