No Drivers for HP D2600 printer

I am trying to install a HP D2600 printer. The software nver finishes. It's installing a bunch of unwanted software anyway.
So I uninstalled that which it did install and went to the add printer selection in Devices and Printers. Found the printer and installed it. Test pages or anything else get as far as the spooler but never to the printer. Device manager tells me no drivers installed. Try to update the drivers and get the message that they are up to date. Printer is Not offline.
What should I do except talk to HP? That's a circus anyway.

    blockie,
If your printer is a USB connection unplug it.
Reboot then once computer is up an running...

Then plug your USB connected printer back in.
Windows 7 should now go and find it.

Post back if more help needed.

In spite of me criticizing HP I went to their driver site and downloaded installation and DRIVER software, The installation went well and drivers were installed. However, when I try to print a test page it only get as far as thew spooler. The printer is online and ready, but still doesn't print.

Did you unplug the printer and reboot/ then plug/connect printer to computer in yet?
One of my printer's is an old HP deskjet and when Win 7 came along I unplug the USB connection and even the electric connection.
When computer rebooted I plugged the printer in the electric outlet and usb from the computer to the printer and Win 7 found it.
It worked for me and might work for you.

    Blockie,

And did you download the Win 7 driver?

did you go to the MS compatibility site to see if the printer is compatible with VERSION of win 7 that you are running?

I finally restored an image of a couple of days ago when it was working. It now works again. A wimpy way out but that is exactly what I make images for. Backup my data daily so I didn't lose anything.
    Thanks for the help.
