Windows 7: Computer power supply

Computer power supply

Can anyone tell me if typical modern motherboards on-off pins to the front panel are normaly open switchs with the turn on action being closed and cold turn off hold closed for a minute or so. Of course the cold turn off should never be done if it can be avouded.

Yes, the pins are for normally open switches.

They aren't really switches, just a way to attach your power/reset swithces from your front panel. Those switches are "momentary close" types. The power and force shut-down use the same pins. It usually is hold the power button down for 4-5 seconds to force a hot shut down.
