What kind of a backup is it? Is it an image backup or file-by-file backup? What backup software did you use or did you just copy selected files to the external drive? That's the kind of info we need to know before we can answer your question. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 8100 Desktop, Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop OS Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Win 7 Pro (32-bit) CPU 2.8Ghz Core i7 860, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo Motherboard Dell, Dell Memory 8G, 3G Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5770, Mobile Intel 965 Sound Card ATI High Definition Audio (Built-in to mobo) Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2409W 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard IBM Model M - used continuously since 1986 Mouse Microsoft Hard Drives 1T OS; 1.5T Data on Desktop, 320G for laptop Internet Speed 1.5M down 1.2M up :-( Other Info Also have an Acer Aspire netbook, a home-built AMD Dual core (Minecraft server) and home-built Pent 4 all running Win 7. um, i went into control panel, and then back up, so i suppose it is a windows back up on to an external harddrive.
and then its got everything on there i suppose from the OS C:\ files and everything, the most important things on there are my images and thats what i want to export from the drive onto my laptop.
i dont know how to export them tho? do i have to restore the driver? to get all the pictures? :/
im so confused. | My System Specs | | OS windows home premium 64 bit. |

If they are images created by Win 7 backup, you don't want to restore them since they will replace what's on your current drive. Win 7 backup uses VHD files for backup which you can "mount" using a tool like WinMount which will allow you to explore and copy the individual files from the image. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 8100 Desktop, Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop OS Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Win 7 Pro (32-bit) CPU 2.8Ghz Core i7 860, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo Motherboard Dell, Dell Memory 8G, 3G Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5770, Mobile Intel 965 Sound Card ATI High Definition Audio (Built-in to mobo) Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2409W 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard IBM Model M - used continuously since 1986 Mouse Microsoft Hard Drives 1T OS; 1.5T Data on Desktop, 320G for laptop Internet Speed 1.5M down 1.2M up :-( Other Info Also have an Acer Aspire netbook, a home-built AMD Dual core (Minecraft server) and home-built Pent 4 all running Win 7. If it's a standard windows backup as opposed to an image then it contains both an image and a file and folder backup. If you navigate to the backup. It should look like the top line on the attachment but with your old pc name. Double click on it and you will be given the opportunity to restore the files. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Hewlett-Packard/G62-107SA Notebook OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1 CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 330 @ 2.13GHz Motherboard Hewlett-Packard 1425 Memory 8 GB DDR3 Graphics Card Intel(R) HD Graphics Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Builtin Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 x 32 bits (4294967296 colors) @ 60 Hz Mouse Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Hard Drives 250 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 7200 rpm

Ok. If you get this screen.
When you double click on in you should get this.
And if you select restore my files you should get this.
from which you can select the files and folders to restore. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Hewlett-Packard/G62-107SA Notebook OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1 CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 330 @ 2.13GHz Motherboard Hewlett-Packard 1425 Memory 8 GB DDR3 Graphics Card Intel(R) HD Graphics Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Builtin Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 x 32 bits (4294967296 colors) @ 60 Hz Mouse Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Hard Drives 250 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 7200 rpm
