I want to upgrade my cpu from the 1st gen. i5 750 I have installed now to a 2nd gen. i7. Does my mo-bo (Asus p7p 55d pro) support 2nd gen Intel cpu's & will the upgrade effect my software & games ?

I don't know of any LGA 1156 i7's I could be wrong not my strongest point at the moment, but pretty sure all the i7's are LGA 1366.
Basically the i7 can't plug into the board because the socket doesn't match.

Windows 10. EFI boot partition, full EFI boot.

No the P55 motherboard will not support second generation I5 or I7 CPUs. You will need to get a new 1155 socket motherboard. Probably new memory too.

No they are not, but the few that will fit some 1156 boards. I only know because I have an 1156 board and wanted to see the best chip I could put in it. I decided it wasn't worth the effort.
