When you say you backed up your files I presume you made a copy ie Windows backup. While this is good as it will allow you to restore you PC in case something goes wrong, it is not going to remove data from your drives. What you can do is cut and paste your personal files to another drive so they are still accessible, Ie from your E:\ drive. (films music pictures etc.) You need to be careful not to move system files as they may no longer work
To clean up your C:\ drive, right click on the drive and select Properties and disc cleanup

If you want to know WHAT is taking up the disk space, use this little prgram. It's great at finding unknown file space hogs... Apart from checking with the excellent program that fseal posted, you must also check your shadowstorage because that would not show up in the WinDirStat charts.
Open an elevated Command Prompt and type or paste vssadmin list shadowstorage
Then hit Enter. Look for the C and E numbers. Allocated is what is currently used. Maximum is what will be ultimately used.
If those numbers are anything bigger than 5 to 10GBs, we'll have to reduce the shadowstorage. Post back and we will tell you how. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |
